Power of a Subconscious Mind – 4 Steps to Program a Subconscious Mind

What is the power of a subconscious mind? How can you program a subconscious mind? It is an exciting phenomenon. It works according to its very own rules and unfortunately does not always do what we actually want.

Just as our subconscious develops, so we can influence it ourselves and let it work for our goals.

In this article, you will learn how our subconscious ticks, what it wants and doesn’t want and how you can program your subconscious so that it is useful to you.

How does our subconscious work?

On the one hand, we have a consciousness. A “space” in which we are clear about what is happening.

Thoughts that we know are there and what they mean (mostly at least).

A place where we make “conscious” decisions. We know that there are alternatives A and B and we specifically choose one of them.

We know what we do and what we think.

And on the other hand, there is the subconscious. This initially eludes our perception. At least the kind of perception that makes up our consciousness.

The power of a subconscious mind has its own “rules” and sometimes it seems as if it controls us more than we would like.

But how exactly does it work?

Power of a Subconscious Mind – 4 Steps to Program a Subconscious Mind - how does it work

#1 | It learns and stores

The subconscious absorbs everything that happens. And then this information is stored and recalled as the subconscious thinks it would be good for us.

This is the primary purpose of the unconscious: It is part of us and wants us to be safe.

It protects us! All the time!

One can imagine it as a storage medium. A hard disk or a USB stick. In the beginning, it is simply empty. There is nothing on it. But little by little it fills up with information.

  • It learns that the stove is hot and that it hurts when you touch it.
  • It learns which words it has to string together in order to create an understandable sentence.
  • It learns that it only gets love if it does what mummy demands.
  • It learns how to start, steer and shift a car.
  • And it learns that it is bad to have a lot of money. Since rich people are idiots 🙄

The subconscious is “described” throughout his life. It learns through sensory experiences.

When we touch the stove and it hurts, it is an experience. Maybe sometimes it takes more than one of these experiences to get the message across completely, but at some point, the subconscious mind will store it clearly: hot hotplate = attention.

And when someone tells us for years: “You’re a bad person if you don’t write good grades“, the subconscious takes it up in the same way and learns: “I’m only good if I’m good and diligent. Only then will I be loved.

And so it is described and processed and stored all the time. The disadvantage is that things that harm us can be saved. If the subconscious mind stores: “Only lovable, only hard-working“, then this can become very uncomfortable for lazy people.

Or if someone wants to be rich on a conscious level, but has heard for half his life that rich is negative, then he may unconsciously prevent himself from achieving this goal.

Our subconscious doesn’t care how we feel at that moment. It just wants to protect us. And that according to the rules it has learned.

So then unconscious routines and behaviors can creep in which the subconscious thinks that they are good for us, but unfortunately they harm us more than they benefit us. For example, such beliefs as described above.

#2 | The subconscious is like a little child

The subconscious is not rational. Not like the conscious mind.

If the advertisement says: “Swallow this pill and you will immediately lose 20 kilos“, then the rational mind says: “Never in life. That’s total nonsense.” And the subconscious mind says exactly at this moment: “What if it is? I must first try it out…

Sometimes it’s curious and sometimes it’s anxious. It lets itself be taken by the moment and makes decisions immediately.

It wants to protect us and takes the easiest way there. Namely exactly as it has just learned.

#3 | It makes uninterrupted decisions

Imagine you would make every decision consciously. Your day would look something like this:

The alarm clock rings.

“Hmm, should I turn the alarm off or let it ring? And should I open my eyes or leave them open? And the next breath is on again. And then? Do I get up? How do I get up? First with my head? Or with my hands? Or the feet after all? The left or the right? And then? Where am I going? What am I doing? How do I go? Am I going at all?…”

You already notice how far you have come! You are still lying in bed…

If you had to make all these mini-decisions consciously, your mind would be completely overwhelmed.

All these small decisions your subconscious takes over for you. It lives by routines and habits and does what it knows works. And that is usually what it has always done.

#4 | Your subconscious stores everything

While your consciousness can only store a few things, your subconscious stores everything.

It remembers things that your consciousness doesn’t even notice.

Again, it does you a huge favor. Because your consciousness would be completely overwhelmed with this task.

How can you program a subconscious mind?

But I don’t want to program myself. That’s manipulation.”  – Yes, that’s exactly what it is.

And that’s exactly what happens every second of your life! Your subconscious is programmed every second. Because there is a continuous crackling of information on it. And how this information arrives is decisive for how it is stored.

Let’s take a simple sentence:

“You’re too late.” – or – “You’re late again.”

A little word that makes a big difference. Because with the word “again” in this constellation, a different association is awakened in our subconscious than without this word. That is manipulation. And that is programming.

And since that happens anyway, the only question is:

Do you consciously want to influence it or not?

If not, then others will do it!

By the way, you can also protect yourself from unwanted manipulation: By knowing what is happening. By seeing how others proceed. By, for example, seeing in advertising which means are used to evoke which associations in you. And as soon as you recognize it, you are free to decide!

4 Steps to Program a Subconscious Mind

#1 | Bring your subconscious to your side

Especially when you feel that your subconscious sometimes gets in your way, blocks you or puts obstacles in your way, don’t fight it.

Do not make your subconscious your enemy, but acknowledge it for what it does.

Make the following clear to yourself:

Even if it doesn’t feel so good at that moment and you have the feeling of being your own enemy, your subconscious means well to you!

It wants to protect you! It ALWAYS has a positive motivation.

Acknowledge that. No, even more: be grateful for it!

Thank your unconscious for being so faithful to your side and looking after you. No matter in which way it does that. Just thank him for the intention.

#2 | Look closely at what it's keeping you from.

  • You want to be rich and feel like you’re stopping yourself?
  • You want more contact with people and think you are standing in your own way?
  • You want more success in life and block yourself?

So that you can solve the problem, you must see it first.

That means:

Just knowing that you are holding yourself back from something is not enough.

Explore exactly what you are preventing yourself from and why exactly.

Ask yourself (also in writing or with the help of a friend or coach etc.) what exactly you want to protect yourself from. What exactly does your subconscious want to avoid?

Get to the bottom of this question (you can also find great exercises in my video course: Success Programming) and solve exactly that.

You do this by proving to your subconscious that everything is possible differently than it might think. Your subconscious thinks being rich is evil and bad? Then look at people who are rich, nice and good! These exist!

#3 | Change your thoughts consciously

Your unconscious “sends” thoughts into your consciousness from time to time. That can then run off in such a way:

  • “They are all stupid at work. I can’t stand them at all.”
  • “Oh, this is an annoying day. Today everything goes wrong.”

I bet you can think of some other examples yourself. BUT:

Whenever that happens, consciously change these sentences yourself!

If you notice that you think something that is not beautiful, then change this thinking into something beautiful. Then think rather:

  • “My colleagues at work are also people and have their stress. And they all have their good sides. I remember exactly how Michael made me laugh the other day…”
  • “Okay, the day was a little exhausting. But then I make the best of it, take a bath, relax and think about the holiday ahead.”

You have it in your hand (well, more in your head 🙃) to think what you want to think. And every time you change your thinking, you also reprogram your subconscious!

#4 | Change your routines

Your subconscious loves routines and habits. That makes it much easier for it. So give him exactly that!

You want to be richer? Then work every morning from 6-7 o’clock exactly on it. Every morning! Do things regularly. And in such a way that your subconscious learns: Ah, so it goes!

Your subconscious feels good in routines. So do things habitually that are useful to you and your subconscious will be happy to play along! Here you can find 25 smart habits for positive thinking. Do you have a bad habit and want to change it? Heres how you can change a bad habit in 4 easy Steps
